Mind-Boggling Midjourney Statistics in 2023

Are you looking for interesting Midjourney statistics and charts for your next article?

Perhaps you’ve already spent hours trying to find something useful but no matter how long you searched, nothing came up?

That’s exactly the experience we had and that’s why we decided to dig up as much data as we can and put together some juicy stats of our own.

In this guide, we’ll introduce you to some of the lesser-known but equally interesting Midjourney statistics.

Let’s dive right in.

Users can use words to describe what they would like Midjourney to create for them and the AI will then create sample images.

This process is commonly referred to as “text-to-image” AI art and the descriptions used for these commands are called “text prompts”.

In mid-2022 Midjourney made headlines with some of the shockingly realistic artwork that it generated.

Midjourney is currently the most popular AI art tool of its kind based on public interest and usage.

Key Points (tl;dr)
  • Midjourney receives between 3-4 million website visitors per month.
  • 75% of all users are male.
  • 60% of all users are 34 years old or younger.
  • Midjourney’s Twitter profile currently has 148,000 followers (September 2022)
  • The Discord server has 2.7 million members (September 2022)
  • Approximately 275,000 images are generated by Midjourney on a daily basis (estimate from September 2022)
  • We estimate that Midjourney generates around ~$750,000 in revenue each month.

Midjourney Statistics

Midjourney Inc. is a self-funded startup based in San Francisco, California.

However, other than some of the basic headline figures, there aren’t many other statistics or charts available at this point in time.

This makes it particularly challenging for many authors and journalists to add quantitative substance to their work.

We have scoured the internet for all sorts of facts and figures about Midjourney and have compiled them here for you to use and reference.

If you plan on using any of these stats in your articles, papers, or for any other purposes, kindly give credit where credit is due and link back to this page.

It’s never easy to estimate the real traffic of a website, however, given many of the tools at our disposal today, we can take an informed guess.

We have used various tools such as Google Trends, SimilarWeb, SEMRush, and KeywordsAnywhere to extrapolate Midjourney statistics that we believe to be realistic.

As you can see from the graph, the wave of interest in AI-generated art was initially triggered by news about DALL-E in early June.

At roughly the same time, interest in Midjourney started to grow as well, however, it did not spike until early August 2022.

Other competitors have also emerged since then but Midjourney seems to be able to stay top of mind and remains one of the most popular AI art tools out there.

Similar estimates that Midjourney receives around 32 million pageviews per day at around 7.5 pageviews per visit.

That leaves us with roughly 3-4 million visitors per month, which we believe is one of our most realistic Midjourney stats.

Users stay on the site for an average of about 7 minutes, which is very high.

Demographics

A hardly surprising Midjourney statistic is the fact that over 75% of all visitors to the site are male.

You’d normally expect a bigger share of women when it comes to artists, however, given the highly technical context of AI-generated artwork, the numbers are in line with the tech industry’s average.

Over 60% of all visitors are 34 years old or younger and have an above-average interest in gaming topics, which is hardly surprising given that Discord is very popular among gamers.

Social Profiles

The official Midjourney Twitter account has grown to over 148,000 followers and is currently gaining around 200-300 new followers each day.

That being said, most of the social media action around Midjourney actually happens elsewhere.

TikTok completely blows all other platforms out of the water, which is probably correlated to the younger demographic among which TikTok is very popular.

Nevertheless, we still find that tracking the #midjourney hashtag on Twitter or Instagram will provide the most satisfying results if you just want to see some of the best images out there.

Midjourney Usage Stats

The following figures on Midjourney statistics regarding actual usage have mostly been collected by us and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt.

These are all best guesses based on what we can see on Discord, however, we do think we’ve not too far off.

Discord Server

The Midjourney Discord server has been growing at a mind-boggling speed.

When we first joined the server in early August, the server had roughly 600,000 members and only one week later it was at nearly 900,000 members.

Today, in late September 2022, it’s at an insane 2.7 million members, and at any given time, between 300,000 and 600,000 of those members are actively online.

Number of Generated Images

However, if we assume that 90% of the activity happens on the official Discord server, we can work with what we can observe there.

At off-peak times roughly 3-4 prompts are processed per minute and there are at least around 90 newbie channels.

At peak times the activity is easily twice that high, but peak times only account for about 30% of the day.

That brings us to a guestimate of just over ~400 processed requests per minute and nearly 275,000 per day.

Sounds like a lot. Maybe it is. But that’s less than 1 request per active Discord user per day.

We think it’s realistic a realistic Midjourney statistic.

The data for these charts was not collected by us, so you can’t vouch for their accuracy.

However, the Reddit user who originally posted these makes a compelling case.

Revenue Estimates

It’s time to finish off our articles with some Midjourney statistics around profitability.

So how do we estimate how much revenue Midjourney is generating every month?

The vast majority of users will be free users and only consume resources.

That in itself will likely cost tons of money.

Given the addictive nature of Midjourney, we’re going to assume that 10% of all the average daily active users (~450,000) are paying members.

That gives us about ~45,000 paying members.

We estimate that 70% of these (31,500) have a Basic plan at $10 per month, 25% (11,250) have a Standard plan at $30 per month at 5% (2,250) are companies paying around $50 per month.

That would put Midjourney’s current revenue at $765,000 per month.

Who knows what their cloud computing bill looks like but it’s definitely going to be on the high side.

That being said, Co-Founder David Holz has stated publicly that the company is already profitable.

Conclusion

Midjourney and many of the other AI art generators that made headlines in 2022 have got the world sitting at the edge of their seat.

Unfortunately, the software is still so new that very few statistics or figures are available right now.

That’s why we decided to fill that gap and create some awesome charts for everyone.

Here at Tokenized, we want to help you learn as much as possible about the AI software industry. We help you navigate the world of tech and the digitalization of our society at large, including the tokenization of assets and services.
